Battle of Rạch Gầm–Xoài Mút

1785 · 18th century

The Battle of Rạch Gầm–Xoài Mút was fought on the Mekong in present-day Tiền Giang province, southern Vietnam, in January 1785. Tây Sơn forces under Nguyễn Huệ ambushed and destroyed a Siamese fleet and army that had come to restore Nguyễn Ánh, heir of the Nguyễn lords. The victory ended the Siamese intervention and secured the south for the Tây Sơn for several years.
