Battle of Ridaniya

1517 · 16th century · Part of the Ottoman–Mamluk War (1516–1517)

The Battle of Ridaniya was fought on 22 January 1517 outside Cairo between the Ottoman army of Selim I and the Mamluks under Sultan Tuman bay II. Ottoman artillery and musketry outflanked the Mamluk fortified line, and Cairo was taken soon after. The victory completed the Ottoman conquest of Egypt and ended the Mamluk Sultanate.
