Battle of Rocroi

1643 · 17th century · Also known as Rocroi · Part of the Thirty Years' War

The Battle of Rocroi was fought in 1643 in northern France during the Thirty Years' War, where a French army under the Duke of Enghien defeated the Spanish Army of Flanders. The Spanish tercios, long considered the finest infantry in Europe, suffered heavy losses. The battle is widely seen as marking the end of the military dominance of the Spanish Empire.
