Battle of Uhud

625 · 7th century

The Battle of Uhud was fought in March 625 at Mount Uhud, north of Medina, between the Muslims under Muhammad and the Quraysh of Mecca led by Abu Sufyan. Archers who left their posts allowed a Meccan cavalry charge under Khalid ibn al-Walid, and the Muslims were defeated, with Muhammad wounded and his uncle Hamza killed. The Meccans did not follow up their victory.
