Battle of Wagram
The Battle of Wagram was fought on 5–6 July 1809 on the Marchfeld plain north-east of Vienna between Napoleon and the Austrian army of Archduke Charles. After crossing the Danube, the French won in two days of fighting, one of the largest battles in Europe up to that time, with about 300,000 men engaged. The defeat led Austria to sign the armistice of Znaim and the Treaty of Schönbrunn, ceding large territories.
