Blaj

Blaj is a small town in Alba County, Romania, in central Transylvania. It became the seat of the Romanian Greek Catholic Church after the union of many Orthodox Romanians with Rome around 1700, and its schools, opened in 1754, made it a cradle of the Romanian national movement. In May 1848 a great assembly of Romanians on its Field of Liberty demanded national rights.
