Brăila

Brăila is a city on the lower Danube in eastern Romania, in the historical region of Wallachia. Held by the Ottomans as a fortress from the mid-16th century to 1829, it was returned to Wallachia by the Treaty of Adrianople and became a free port. With nearby Galați it was the main outlet for Romanian grain exports in the 19th century.
