Braniewo

Also known as Braunsberg

Braniewo, German Braunsberg, is a town in Warmia in north-eastern Poland, near the Vistula Lagoon. Founded in the thirteenth century in the lands of the Prince-Bishopric of Warmia under the Teutonic Order, it became a member of the Hanseatic League and a centre of trade. After 1466 it passed with Warmia to Poland, and from 1565 it housed an important Jesuit college.
