Brantas River
The Brantas River is the longest river in East Java, flowing in a great arc around the Kelud and Arjuno volcanoes to the sea at Surabaya. Its fertile valley was the heartland of East Javanese kingdoms from the 10th century, including Kahuripan, Kediri, Singhasari and Majapahit. Airlangga built dams to control its floods, and its mouth sheltered the port of Surabaya.
