Brar (clan)
The Brar are a Jat clan of the Punjab, concentrated in the Malwa region south of the Sutlej. Brar chiefs rose to power in the 18th century as Mughal and Durrani authority collapsed, and Brar families ruled the princely state of Faridkot, while the related Sidhu-Brar Phulkian line ruled Patiala, Nabha and Jind. Many Brars are Sikhs, and the clan remains prominent in Punjabi politics.
