Brest

Brest is a port city at the western tip of Brittany, France, on a large natural harbour opening onto the Atlantic. Cardinal Richelieu under Louis XIII and later Colbert under Louis XIV developed it into the main base of the French Atlantic fleet, fortified by Vauban. Heavily destroyed during the Second World War, when it was a German submarine base, it remains a major French naval port.
