Brinno

1st century CE · 1st century

Brinno was a chieftain of the Cananefates, a Germanic people of the western Rhine delta. According to Tacitus, in 69 CE his people raised him on a shield to proclaim him leader, the earliest record of that custom, and he opened the Batavian revolt of Julius Civilis by attacking Roman forts on the North Sea coast.
