Bulgars
The Bulgars were a Turkic-speaking nomadic people of the Pontic-Caspian steppe who emerged in the early medieval period. Some founded the First Bulgarian state on the Danube in the seventh century, while others settled on the middle Volga. Steppe peoples such as the Bulgars and Khazars inherited political traditions shaped by the Gokturk Empire.
