Burebista

d. 44 BCE · 1st century BCE

Burebista was a king of the Getae and Dacians who, from about 82 BCE, united their tribes into a powerful kingdom, aided by the high priest Deceneus. He extended his realm from the middle Danube to the Black Sea, defeating the Boii and Scordisci and sacking Greek cities such as Olbia and Histria. He was murdered in 44 BCE, and his kingdom split apart.
