Bushati family

1757–1831 · 18th century · Also known as Bushatis

The Bushati family was an Albanian dynasty that ruled the Pashalik of Scutari from Shkodër between 1757 and 1831. Taking advantage of Ottoman weakness, Mehmed Pasha Bushati and his son Kara Mahmud Pasha built an autonomous domain over northern Albania and neighbouring lands, while later members alternated between rebellion and service to the sultan. Their rule ended when Mustafa Pasha Bushati surrendered to the grand vizier Reşid Mehmed Pasha in 1831.
