Cachar

Cachar is a district in the Barak valley of southern Assam, India, with its headquarters at Silchar. In the 18th century the Dimasa kings of the Kachari kingdom moved their capital to Khaspur in its plains, and the region took its name from them. After the last king died in 1830, the British annexed the plains of Cachar in 1832.
