Ahom people
The Ahom are a people of Assam in north-eastern India, descended from Tai followers of Sukaphaa who entered the Brahmaputra valley from upper Burma in 1228 and mixed with local peoples. They founded the Ahom kingdom, which ruled Assam for about six centuries. Over time they adopted Hinduism and the Assamese language, and their chronicles, the buranjis, preserve much of the kingdom's history.
