Certosa di Pavia

1396 · 14th century

The Certosa di Pavia is a Carthusian monastery north of Pavia in Lombardy, founded in 1396 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti as a family mausoleum. Built over more than a century, it combines late Gothic and Renaissance styles, and its marble façade, carved from the 1490s, is among the richest of the Italian Renaissance.
