Cetshwayo
Cetshwayo kaMpande was king of the Zulu from 1872 to 1879. He won the succession by defeating his brother Mbuyazi at Ndondakusuka in 1856, rebuilt the regimental system and made Ulundi his capital. Britain invaded in 1879; after the Zulu victory at Isandlwana his army was broken at Ulundi, and he was captured and exiled. Partly restored in 1883, he was defeated by Zibhebhu and died at Eshowe in 1884.
