Chain mail
Chain mail is armour made of small interlocking metal rings. In the Sokoto Caliphate, some emirates fielded armoured horsemen equipped in a tradition of quilted and chain-mail armour long characteristic of Sudanic warfare. Such cavalry was effective against regional rivals but not against British firearms.
