Chemical weapons

Chemical weapons are toxic substances used in war to kill or injure, such as mustard gas. They were used on a large scale in the First World War and later banned by international agreement. During the Second Italo-Ethiopian War of 1935–1936, the Italian Empire made extensive use of chemical weapons and aerial bombardment against Ethiopian forces and civilians.
