Chikugo Province
Chikugo Province was an old province of Japan in northern Kyushu, corresponding to the southern part of modern Fukuoka Prefecture. Its plain along the Chikugo river was contested by the Otomo, Ryuzoji and Shimazu in the 16th century. Under the Tokugawa shogunate it was divided between domains, chiefly Kurume under the Arima family and Yanagawa under the Tachibana.
