Ōtomo clan
The Ōtomo clan was a Japanese warrior family that held Bungo province in north-eastern Kyushu as military governors from the Kamakura period. Under Ōtomo Sōrin, who became a Christian, it dominated northern Kyushu in the mid-16th century, but it was crushed by the Shimazu at Mimikawa in 1578. It survived under Toyotomi Hideyoshi until he confiscated Bungo in 1593.
