1529–1584 · 16th century · Also known as Ryuzoji Takanobu

Ryūzōji Takanobu was a Japanese warlord of the Sengoku period from Hizen in north-western Kyushu. A former monk, he overthrew his family's overlords, the Shōni, and became one of the three great powers of Kyushu, known for ruthlessness. He was killed in 1584 at the Battle of Okitanawate by the Shimazu and the Arima, and his domain soon passed to his vassals, the Nabeshima.
