Chilehaus

1922–1924 · 20th century

The Chilehaus is a ten-storey office building in Hamburg's Kontorhaus District, built in 1922–1924 to designs by Fritz Höger for the shipowner Henry Sloman, who had made his fortune in Chilean saltpetre. Its pointed eastern end, resembling a ship's bow, made it a landmark of Brick Expressionism. It became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.
