Clan Sinclair

Clan Sinclair is a Scottish clan of Norman origin based in Caithness and Orkney. In 1379 Henry Sinclair was invested as Earl of Orkney by the king of Norway, and his descendants held the earldom until William Sinclair gave it up to James III of Scotland in 1470. The family later held the earldom of Caithness and built Rosslyn Chapel.
