Clermont-Ferrand
Clermont-Ferrand is a city in the Auvergne in central France, at the edge of the Limagne plain beneath the volcanic Chaîne des Puys. It began as Augustonemetum, the Roman capital of the Arverni, and as Clermont it was a bishop's seat where Pope Urban II preached the First Crusade in 1095. It later merged with neighbouring Montferrand and is the home of the Michelin tyre company.
