Clydeside
Clydeside is the conurbation along the River Clyde in west-central Scotland, centred on Glasgow. In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries it was one of the world's leading centres of shipbuilding and heavy engineering, and its radical labour movement earned it the name Red Clydeside; the decline of these industries brought heavy unemployment between the wars and after.
