Coahuiltecan peoples
Coahuiltecans is the name given to many small groups of hunter-gatherers who lived in southern Texas and north-eastern Mexico, in present Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, before and during Spanish colonisation. They lived by gathering plants such as prickly pear and mesquite and by hunting. Epidemics, slave raids and missions, including those at San Antonio, led to their disappearance as distinct peoples by the early 19th century.
