Cora people
The Cora, who call themselves Náayeri, are an indigenous people of the Sierra del Nayar in the Mexican state of Nayarit, speaking a Uto-Aztecan language. From their mountain stronghold at the Mesa del Nayar they resisted Spanish conquest for nearly two centuries, until it fell in 1722. Some 30,000 people speak Cora today, and their festivals combine indigenous and Catholic traditions.
