Nayarit
Nayarit is a state on the Pacific coast of western Mexico, with its capital at Tepic. It takes its name from Nayar, a Cora ruler whose remains were venerated in the mountains of the Sierra del Nayar. Part of the colonial Kingdom of New Galicia, the territory was separated from Jalisco as the Territory of Tepic in 1884 and became a state in 1917.
