Zacatecas
Zacatecas is a city in north-central Mexico founded after the discovery of rich silver deposits in 1546. It became one of the most productive silver-mining centres of New Spain. Accounts of the Spanish Empire cite the mines of Zacatecas, alongside those of Potosí, as sources of the American silver that financed the empire and flowed into the global economy.
