Aguascalientes
Aguascalientes is one of the smallest states of Mexico, in the centre-north of the country, with its capital at the city of the same name, founded in 1575 as a waystation on the silver road. In colonial times it belonged to New Galicia and later to the intendancy of Zacatecas. It was separated from Zacatecas in 1835 and became a state in 1857. The name refers to its hot springs.
