Copts
The Copts are the native Christians of Egypt, whose church traces its origins to the early Christian community of Alexandria. After the Arab conquest they remained the majority of Egypt's population for centuries. Under the Umayyad Caliphate, Coptic merchants and officials continued to participate in commerce and administration.
