County Kilkenny
County Kilkenny is a county in the south-east of Ireland, in the province of Leinster, centred on the city of Kilkenny on the River Nore. It corresponds broadly to the early medieval kingdom of Osraige. After the Anglo-Norman conquest it was part of the Marshal lordship of Leinster and later a stronghold of the Butler earls of Ormond, and in the 1640s Kilkenny was the seat of the Irish Confederate government.
