COVID-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic was a global outbreak of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020, it caused millions of deaths, lockdowns and border closures worldwide and a severe economic shock. Mass vaccination from 2021 reduced its toll, and the WHO ended the global health emergency in May 2023.
