808 · 9th century · Also known as Cruz de los Ángeles

The Cross of the Angels is a jewelled cross of gold, gems and cameos given by Alfonso II of Asturias to the cathedral of Oviedo in 808. A legend says it was made by angels disguised as pilgrims. It is kept in the Cámara Santa of the cathedral, is a masterpiece of Asturian pre-Romanesque metalwork and is the emblem of the city of Oviedo.
