Cross of Lorraine
The Cross of Lorraine is a cross with two horizontal bars, originally the Cross of Anjou, which René II brought into use as an emblem of the dukes of Lorraine in the later fifteenth century. It became the symbol of the region of Lorraine and, during the Second World War, of the Free French Forces, whose leader Charles de Gaulle adopted it in 1940.
