Crown Dependencies
The Crown Dependencies are the Bailiwick of Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Isle of Man, self-governing possessions of the British Crown. They are not part of the United Kingdom, have their own parliaments and laws, and rely on the UK for defence and foreign relations. The Channel Islands owe their status to the dukes of Normandy, the Isle of Man to the lordship bought by the Crown in 1765.
