Channel Islands

The Channel Islands are an archipelago off the coast of Normandy, comprising the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey, the latter including Alderney and Sark. Once part of the Duchy of Normandy, they stayed with the English crown after King John lost mainland Normandy in 1204. They are British Crown Dependencies, not part of the United Kingdom, and were the only British territory occupied by Germany in the Second World War.
