Chanthaburi
Chanthaburi is a city in south-eastern Thailand near the Cambodian border, long known for its gem trade and fruit orchards. After the fall of Ayutthaya in 1767, Taksin seized the town and used it as the base where he gathered troops and built a fleet before driving the Burmese from the Ayutthaya region. France occupied Chanthaburi from 1893 to 1905 as security for a treaty with Siam.
