Cuiabá
Cuiabá is the capital of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, near the geographical centre of South America. It was founded in 1719 after bandeirantes from São Paulo found gold in the area, and miners reached it by long river convoys. It replaced Vila Bela as the capital of Mato Grosso in 1835.
