Rondônia
Rondônia is a state in the Amazon region of western Brazil, bordering Bolivia, with its capital at Porto Velho. It was created as the federal Territory of Guaporé in 1943 from parts of Mato Grosso and Amazonas, renamed in 1956 after the explorer Cândido Rondon, and became a state in 1982. Settlement and deforestation grew rapidly from the 1970s.
