Cvetković–Maček Agreement
The Cvetković–Maček Agreement was a political settlement reached on 26 August 1939 between the Yugoslav prime minister Dragiša Cvetković and Vladko Maček, leader of the Croatian Peasant Party, with the backing of the regent Prince Paul. It created the autonomous Banovina of Croatia, with its own ban and a planned assembly, and brought Maček into the government as deputy prime minister. It was opposed by Serbian nationalists and by the separatist Ustaše.
