Damme
Damme is a small town in West Flanders, Belgium, north-east of Bruges. Founded in the late twelfth century on the Zwin inlet, it served as the outport of Bruges, where goods passed between sea-going ships and the city. In 1213 an English fleet destroyed the French fleet of Philip II Augustus in its harbour. The silting of the Zwin ended its trade, leaving a well-preserved small medieval town.
