Debrecen
Debrecen is the second-largest city of Hungary, in the east of the country. A Calvinist centre since the 16th century, it served as the seat of the revolutionary government in 1849, when the Hungarian parliament proclaimed independence from the Habsburgs in its Great Reformed Church. In December 1944 a provisional national government was formed there under Soviet protection.
