Dholavira

c. 2650–1450 BCE · 27th century BCE · Also known as Kotada Timba

Dholavira is an archaeological site on Khadir Bet, an island in the Great Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, India, the remains of a city of the Indus Valley Civilisation. It was probably occupied from about 2650 to 1450 BCE, though recent research puts its start near 3500 BCE. Its buildings were largely of stone rather than brick, and it had sixteen or more reservoirs, some cut into the living rock. Ten large Indus signs of gypsum, once set in a wooden board about 3 metres long, lay in a side room of its northern gateway.
