Domingo Paes

16th century · 16th century

Domingo Paes was a Portuguese traveller and horse trader who visited the Vijayanagara Empire around 1520, during the reign of Krishnadevaraya. His detailed account of the capital, its palaces, markets and temples and the Mahanavami festival, is one of the main sources for the city at its height. It survives in a sixteenth-century compilation together with the chronicle of Fernão Nunes.
