Dorieus

d. c. 510 BCE · 6th century BCE

Dorieus was a Spartan prince, a son of King Anaxandridas II and half-brother of Cleomenes I. Passed over for the throne, he left Sparta around 515 BCE to found a colony on the Cinyps in Libya, but was expelled by the Macae and Carthaginians. He then sailed to western Sicily, where he was killed fighting the Carthaginians and Segestans; Leonidas I was his younger brother.
