Drangiana
Drangiana was an ancient region in the basin of the Helmand river and Lake Hamun, on the borders of modern Iran and Afghanistan. It was a satrapy of the Achaemenid Empire and was crossed by Alexander the Great in 330 BCE. After Saka groups settled there in the late second century BCE it became known as Sakastan, the origin of the modern name Sistan.
